A Look at Our Week in 5 Day Pre-K!

Hi All,

Well, our Leprechaun trap did not work. The leprechaun made off with our pot of gold and left behind a mess in the classroom and wet footprints leading to an open window! He sure was tricky.

We had two visitors at school this week. Mrs. T was in on Tuesday. The children had a great time listening to her story, helping to make a rainbow and dancing. Mrs. T brought her harmonica and played it at the same time as she played her guitar. The children were amazed at how talented she is!

On Thursday, we had a visit from the Audobon Society. We listened to a story about turtles and then the children got to observe a real boxer turtle named Boxy and even had an opportunity to touch him.

On Friday, we participated in World Down Syndrome Day. The children were so excited to be a part of this and to show off their socks. We read the book The Unstoppable Jamie by Joy Givens.

Our Reading Street Book this week was Somebody Stole My Smile by Carmen Tafolla.  Ask your child what our story was about.

We talked a lot about change this week. Our vocabulary words were new, changes, mirror, old, growing and supper.

Our Reading Street Song was I Lost A Baby Tooth.

Our Letter of the Week was M and our Letter Sound Song was Merry Mama Mouse and Grandma Mole.

Other activities included:

Discovery Table: Mulch and dinosaurs

Project Table:  Color mixing-the children learned that by mixing blue and yellow they were able to make green. They painted shamrocks.

On Friday, everyone created their own socks which will be displayed on our bulletin board soon.

Art Easel:  Self portraits-the children were able to look in the mirror & draw themselves.

Math Table:  Graphing Lucky Charms....this was a hit and they enjoyed sorting the marshmallows and being able to bring home a treat. BUT on top of that we were talking about math concepts!

Pretend Center:  Grocery Store-this continues to be busy. This week the children were lining up chairs to make a car and using a plate as the steering wheel as they left the store with their bags of groceries.

Play Doh: Green play doh, cutters and silicone molds

Listening Center: Have Fun Molly Lou Melon

Discovery Table: Microscopes with slides to view

Important reminders:

Please continue to send a hat and mittens daily!

If you have not purchased a raffle calendar for our fundraiser, they are on sale until March 31st. There are MANY great prizes!

Wednesday is Crazy Hair Day and Show & Tell for letter N.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
