All About Love in 5 Day Pre-K!
Hi Everyone,
We certainly fit a whole lot into 4 day week! We were able to get out for recess everyday and the children certainly enjoyed playing in the snow. Shoveling, sledding, snow angels, sliding through snow and even an Ice Shop under the play structure.
On Monday, Mr. G was in to visit. He read Pete The Cat and the Cool Cat Boogie.
On Wednesday, we attended the Valentine's Dance in Fellowship Hall with the other classes. Our class certainly brought their moves with them! We also celebrated Valentine's Day in our classroom. Everyone had a turn to show off their mailbox. We sat in a circle and each child took a turn delivering their cards to friends. We had a special dessert after lunch too.
On Friday, Mrs. T came in to visit. We sang along to the book If You'll Be My Valentine, met Gus the Groundhog, guessed animal shadows and pretended to be different animals hibernating.
Also, today we were lucky enough to have 6 Graduates of Jack and Jill return to visit us as Reading Buddies. This was a wonderful event and we are very thankful that they volunteered their time to read to our class. After reading, Pre-K 1 showed off their dance moves. Then, we all danced together to some classic Jack & Jill songs such as Sit Down, Stand Up Song and Tutti-Ta and did the Limbo.
Other activities included:
Math Table: Identifying numbers and putting the corresponding amount of wood pieces in the containers.
Discovery Table: Magnetic balls and rods
Sensory Table: Arctic animals, snow (paper shred), ice and blocks to build habitats
Art Easel: Watercolors
Project Table: Love You To Pieces craft...the children cut tissue paper and glued it onto the heart.
We made bracelets by threading beads onto pipe cleaners. Painting wood hearts.
We read Happy Valentine's Day Little Critter by Mercer Meyer and Love Is My Favorite Thing by Emma Chichester Clark.
We reviewed all of the letters we have learned so far this year...L, F, E, H, T, I, U, C, O, Q, G, S, J, D, P, B and R. We worked on identifying these letters, the sound each one makes and the formation when writing them.
We took a break from our Reading Street curriculum and Letter of the Week due to our special activities and visitors.
I hope you all have a wonderful February vacation. I will see you on Monday, February 26th.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
