December Fun In 5 Day Pre-K!

Hello All,

I wanted to thank you for taking the time for conferences on Monday. It was nice to have the opportunity to discuss your children.

Our Reading Street Book this week was Quack, Daisy, Quack! by Jane Simmons. "When Aunt Lily takes Daisy and her little brother Pip, to the feeding pond where all the ducks are quacking, they think they've found the perfect playground, until they lose sight of Mama Duck".

Our song was Let's All Play. Our vocabulary words were visiting, pulled, noisy, piece, pushing and shouting.

We also read The Kindness Quilt by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace and listened to Merry Christmas Curious George H.A. Rey.

Other activities in our classroom this week were:

Discovery:  Magnetic balls and rods

Math: Number identification....cups were numbered and the children would count out the correct number of pipe cleaners to insert into the holes of the cup.

Project Table:  Q is for Queen...the children worked hard gluing, coloring and decorating their queen with jewels.

Holiday wreaths were also created. The children used dot markers to color the wreath, and then peeled stickers and glued pom poms. Each one was different and wonderful.

Today, there were also foam ornaments to decorate.

Art Easel:  Painting with Q-tips...many beautiful gingerbread houses were made.

On Friday, there were different size/patterns of square paper to make a quilt with.

Sensory Table:  Fairy Garden....homes, fairies, animals, rocks & jewels are amongst coffee beans and paper straw.

Our Block Area was very busy! Lots of building going on...schools, train stations and buildings. There are also, train tracks and trains which have been very popular.

At Puzzles and Games, there are new puzzles, view finders and a new activity to help with zipping, buttoning and snapping. I have not changed out the game available as the children LOVE playing Sneaky Squirrel. If you looking for ideas for the holidays, board games are a great idea!

Our Play-doh is now green with gold sparkles. There are holiday cookie cutters and pom poms to use.

Our Pretend Center has changed to a Post Office. There is stationary, cards, envelopes, stickers and writing utensils. The children were very busy making mail to bring home and making deliveries to their friend's mailboxes. Our Super Duper Helper has become our classroom mail carrier. Emptying the mailbox each day and delivering the mail to the children's mailboxes.

Listening Center: There Was A Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow by Lucille Colandro.

The weather was very cold on Thursday and Friday but that didn't stop us from enjoying indoor recess. We moved A LOT! Exercising, doing the indoor obstacle course, practicing throwing and catching, movement dice, using rhythm sticks and dancing.

Looking ahead our Letter of the Week will be G. Show & Tell will be on Wednesday.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
