Embracing the Chill in 5 Day Pre-K!

Hello All,

Our Reading Street Book this week was Henny Penny by H. Werner Zimmermann. "Henny Penny and her friends are on their way to tell the king that the sky is falling when they meet a hungry fox."

Our song was The Forest. Our vocabulary words were acorn, forest, shortcut, cave, hollered and sly.

Our Letter of the Week was S. We also worked on identifying s in print in the books of our library and on objects in our classroom.

Our song was Let's Set Sail.

We also read Sneezy the Snowman, Footprints in the Snow, Miles Comes Home and listened to Super Spaghetti.

Other activities in our classroom this week were:

Math: Geoboards. The children stretched elastics on the boards to make shapes & objects. Even a volcano was made!

Discovery: Sensory Bottles-some of the reactions I heard were "wow", "look at this", "awesome".

Project Table: Sparkly Snowflakes...snowflakes were painted and then sparkles were added.

S is for Shark.....the children decorated a shark & we turned it into a hat. The children worked very hard at cutting out the pieces on their own.

Snakes were created by lacing beads on a pipe cleaner. Faces were added to the Pom Pom head.

Superhero masks were also made.

Sensory Table: There is now snow (white paper shred), jewels, blocks, pom poms and arctic animals.

Art Easel: Happy New Year worksheets to start the week. Then black construction paper, white paint and stamps for free art.

Listening Center:  Tooth Trouble by Jane Clarke.

Mrs. T was in to visit us today. We had a great time. We sang along to her book Snowflake, Snowflake What Do You See, helped make a snowman and then talked about the differences between the snowman we made and the one on the cover of her book. We sang and danced to Frosty The Snowman, Stand Up/Sit Down song and got in our little red wagons to Bumpin' Up and Down.

Looking ahead, Show & Tell on Wednesday will be for Letter J.

Have a nice weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
