February Friends and Fun in the 3's!
Good afternoon!
We had a fun and eventful few days in the 3's class this week!
Mrs. T paid a visit to our classroom today! Valentine's Day, and Groundhog day were a big hit! We read a book, met Mrs. T's groundhog puppet, played a guess the shadow game, and did lots of singing and dancing. It's always a treat when Mrs. T comes!
Our book this week was Pete the Cat: Valentine's Day is Cool by Kimberly and James Dean. We learned that Valentine's Day is all about showing the people in your life how special they are to you. Pete and his friend Callie made cards for their friends in school, their bus driver, crossing guard, and other special community helpers! But Pete forgot to make a card for Callie! But Callie told Pete that spending time together was even better than getting a card!
What's NEW in centers this week?
Art table- The children decorated bags to collect Valentine's from their friends, and colored Pete the Cat valentine's pictures.
Easel- Painting hearts with red, purple, and white paint was the first step in a painting and gluing project we're working on.
Math- Using cubes, crayons, magnetic letters and dinosaur counters from our classroom we experimented with a balancing scale. It was fun to watch what side was heavier or lighter depending on what we put in the cups on either side. We also searched around the room with a clipboard and crayons for valentine's pictures. When we found them we colored in or traced the shape next to the picture on the clipboard. They were very good at finding the different things!
Pretend- We have some very busy builders in our class! We used tools, blocks, and a tool bench to fix all the things that needed fixing.
Discovery- We continued learning about emotions this week. We used puzzles, dolls, velcro face pieces and an emotion matching game to discover scared and angry emotions.
We continued to have fun with our purple playdough, trains, and buses!
Just a reminder- We'll be celebrating Valentine's Day in our class next Friday the 18th. The children are free to wear festive colors if they'd like. They're also free to bring in cards for their classmates, 14 students total. PLEASE ONLY FILL OUT THE "FROM" PART OF THE CARDS. This is the best way for the children to be able to deliver the cards themselves. We'll also be decorating graham crackers with frosting and sprinkles at snack time. You should have received an email earlier in the week with the ingredients, if you didn't, please let me know.
Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions!
Have a wonderful weekend, and a happy valentine's day with your little loves!
Warmly,
Christina Renoni
