Feeling Thankful in 5 Day Pre-K!
Hi Everyone,
Our Reading Street book this week was another book from our Transportation Unit. We talked a lot about the 3 ways to travel.......by land, by air or by sea. Our story was The Big Trip by Valeri Gorbachev. "What could be more fun than a big trip? Pig can't wait to go, but Goat is worried. How will Pig get there? Bicycles are unsteady, horses can throw you off. Cars can break down and trains get stuck in tunnels. A trip can be no vacation at all...but leave it to Pig to send Goat's worries packing and turn tricky travel into smooth sailing!"
We also talked about "big trips" that we had been on and what way we traveled to get there.
Our Reading Street song was Let's Take A Big Trip. Our vocabulary words were land, plane, ship, hot-air balloon, trip and tunnel.
We also read Be Honest Jess and The Berenstain Bears and the Truth.
Our Letter of the Week was C. Our song was Can You Sit on the Cot? We talked about how making C strokes will help us to draw circles and make other letters too. These letters are O, Q, G & S. The children were very excited to meet the Magic C Bunny. We practiced making the letter C in the air and sang along to the Magic C Song with the bunny. We will continue learning about letter C next week too.
Math Table: We continued identifying numbers 1-10.
Art Easel: We started the week with white paper and watercolor paints for Free Art.
Then had transportation stamps & markers to create pictures with.
Discovery Table: This table was closed this week. You may have heard about the children having a "meeting" with Mrs. Lay or I. Assessments were taking place.
Project Table: C is for crab....I loved seeing the details some friends added to their paper after gluing the crab pieces on.
Letter C to turn into a caterpillar by gluing pom poms, googly eyes and pipe cleaners.
Listening Center: Clark The Shark by Bruce Hale.
Writing Table: Cutting practice, Letter C books and worksheets
For Literacy Month, we were lucky enough to have a visit from Author Lindsay Bartholomew and her daughter Luna (alumni of Jack & Jill). She read her book I Love You Bigger Than Everthing That's Big. On Thursday, Mrs. T was in to visit. We had so much fun singing and dancing with her.
Looking ahead:
Monday: School is closed in observance of Veteran's Day
Wednesday: No Show & Tell
Thursday: Spirit Day is Tie-Dye Thursday
Other reminders:
There is a box outside of our classroom door for Jack & Jill's Food Drive. Our class is collecting canned goods.
Reading Logs should be returned weekly. Keep an eye on the racetrack at the bottom of the stairs as you come into school. We are the red car!
PJ storytime with Mrs. T is on Tuesday, November 19th at 6:30 pm.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
