Finishing Out January in Pre-K 2!
Good afternoon Pre-K 2 families,
Happy February! Our theme for this month is Valentine’s Day and friendship. February is a great month to reinforce social-emotional and play skills. We will focus on the idea of teamwork and continue to talk about ways to show kindness. We will also be starting our Reading Street Literacy Curriculum, continue with our handwriting practice and have more practice with the problem solving process.
This week at MORNING MEETING:
Stories: "The Day it Rained Hearts" by Felicia Bond and "If You'll Be My Valentine" by Cynthia Rylant
NEW Reading Street Story and Skill Focus: “The House in the Meadow” by Shutta Crum, looking at the pictures for clues about the story, we read print starting at the top, vocabulary
Skills: visual discrimination letter sorting (Does your letter have a curve?)
Here's what's happening at CENTERS:
Art- raining hearts art, free art, watercolor painting and Valentine's dot art at the easel
Blocks- wooden blocks, dollhouse, little people, vehicles
Dramatic Play- kitchen with dishes, food, felt sandwich ingredients, baby dolls
Writing/Library- books about Valentine's Day and friendship, Handwriting without Tears materials for practicing the letter C, Valentine card making
Playdough: pink playdough with heart cutters, mini erasers, dough squeezers and letter stampers
Math- counting and matching quantity to numeral with a Valentine Counting Hunt and lock and key toys
Science- fine motor and sensory play with foam-putty, ice cream scoops, cones and heart gems
Sensory Table- sand, heart containers, heart gems
