Finishing Up February in Mixed Age
Good afternoon, everyone! We had a great time here in the mixed age classroom this past week. We learned a lot, celebrated a birthday, and even had a special visitor today! Today our visitor's name was Mrs. Grace and she is a student studying culinary. She came into class today and each child got to make their own personal pizzas, and everyone helped prepare a nutritious trail mix snack. We all had such a wonderful time with this activity, and it was a great way to introduce the topic of nutrition to the class. We discussed the importance of protein and other nutrients, and how they are essential for keeping our bodies strong and healthy. The recipe was sent home to all of you with your children today. This weeks centers were as follows"
The art table: children marble painted fish and decorated their own rainbow fish, each with their own glittery scale.
The writing table included gel writing boards with the letter Q, free draw, and an activity on sharing.
The math table included a sorting and counting activity.
The art easel included water color painting.
The discovery center had a fizzy rainbow activity that utilized baking soda, food coloring, and vinegar. The kids had such a fun time with this activity! We also included shape recognition puzzles where the children were able to match shapes and objects of the corresponding shape together.
The dramatic play center remained play "school" and will be changed for the month of March next week along with playdough.
The sensory table now included St. Patrick's day items including small rainbows, pots, green "grass", and gold coins.
The books we read in class this week were:
Rainbow Fish
Sadie and the Snowman
The letter of the week next week will be R.
We also wanted to take the time to let you know that Jack and Jill is offering a summer program for all of our students and includes a Kindergarten readiness camp! Please feel free to reach out with any questions!
I hope that you all have an amazing weekend, and we will see you next week!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
