Learning in a Winter Wonderland in 5 Day Pre-K!

Hello Families,

It was fun to start our school week with snow! The children enjoyed shoveling, using the sleds, making snow angels and going down the snowy slides! It was the first time of putting the snow gear on at school (twice in one day!) and everyone did a good job.

We now have trains at the Block Center. The children have been working together at building the tracks. They are also enjoying playing games; Memory and Tic Tac Toe.

There is now white Playdoh with blue sparkles. Rolling pins, cookie cutters, scissors and many pieces to construct snowmen.

You may have heard, our Reading Street Book this week was Miss Mary Mack by Mary Ann Hoberman & Nadine Bernard Westcott. This sing along book was a hit! The children also learned the clapping game to go along with this rhyme.

Our Letter of the Week was J. Our song was Jump, Jump, Jump for Joy.

We also listened to the story of There Was An Old Woman Who Swallowed Some Snow by Lucille Colandro.

Mr. G was in to visit and read Rainbow Fish by Marcus Pfister. On Thursday, Mrs. G visited our classroom. We learned the rest of the Blue Bird song, listened to a story and moved our bodies to the beat as she played her ukulele.

Other activities in our classroom this week were:

Sensory Table: The children continue practicing their cutting skills. I was hoping they would have fun with what I put in the table and they are! They are using their imaginations and each day there are new things being made.

Project Table:

J is for Jellyfish...putting a jellyfish together and decorating it

J is for Jewel.....gluing jewels on the letter J. At the end of the week, many children were cutting their own J's out before decorating them.

Art Easel: Blue paper and white paint for free art

Math Table: Light Table....shapes, patterns, color sorting.

Writing Table: J Worksheets and markers. Many creations from the sensory table were brought over to the writing table to be colored.

Looking ahead, Jack and Jill will be closed on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. I look forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday. Our letter of the week will be D and Show & Tell will be on Wednesday.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
