Leaves, Learning and Fun in 5 Day Pre-K!
Hi Everyone,
We started a new Reading Street Unit called Going Places. Our book this week was The Seals on the Bus by Lenny Hort. "Two children and their parents board a city bus on their way to a party. At the next stop, who should get on but a group of seals who holler "errp, errp, errp" at the top of their lungs. Each time the bus stops a new kind of animal joins the passengers". The children loved it! Make sure to ask them about the animals that boarded the bus and what ends up happening that causes the people to say "help, help, help". Our Reading Street song was Monkeys on the Bus. Vocabulary words we talked about were bus, monkeys, party, seals, town and vipers.
We also listened to Tippy Tippy Splash! by Candace Fleming. Who was back in this story but Mr. McGreely and the bunnies. Ask your child what happened in this story. They really enjoyed it!
Our Letter Song this week was Tam Put on a Tank. The children are LOVING our songs.
Other activities included:
Math: Lite Bright was out and very popular. The children pushed tha pegs in to create pictures that included fish, octopus and a seahorse.
Discovery Table: Magnifying glasses and all different fall objeects to check out-leaves, acorns, sticks, bark, acorns, pinecones and pine needles.
Writing Table: Cutting, T Worksheets and chalkboards
Art Easel: White paper, markers and foam shapes to create pictures with
Project Table: We continued making scarecrows at the beginning of the week. Then we moved on to creating name trains. I love the excitement and ideas shown while creating art!
We had a couple visitors this week too! On Wednesday, Fireman Nick came to school to talk to us about his job and fire safety.
He told us his day starts out like ours with an imporant Morning Meeting. He demonstrated how he puts on his gear when he gets a call at the fire station and explained that underneath it all it was still him. Firefighter Nick brought a fire engine that we were able to go out to see, he explained everything on the engine and then each child got a turn to sit in it! On Thursday, Nurse Jennifer came to visit. She read the children a book and explained where she has worked and what she does at her job. Nurse Jennifer brought in differnt items for the children to check out, a sling, bandaids, tape, ice pack bags and surgical caps.
Looking ahead, our Letter of the Week will be I. Show & Tell will be on Wednesday.
I hope to see you tomorrow at Jack & Jill's Fall Festival!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Kelley
