Leaves, Learning and Fun in Mixed Age!
Good afternoon Mixed Age families and happy Friday!
This week was a busy one for the mixed age class. We had a visit from both Sensei Michael and Firefighter Sheehan on Wednesday, and a visit from Nurse Ashley on Thursday. The children absolutely adored each of these special visitors and were able to learn a lot about each way these community helpers help to make our lives safer, happier, and healthier! This week our class centers consisted of more fall themed activities.
Our art easel consisted of fall trees and colorful leaf stickers where the children were able to create their own fall scenery.
At the math table children were able to sort and count various acrylic leaves, acorns, and pumpkins.
The art table was busy with finishing our five little pumpkins gate crafts, and the creation of our own unique pumpkin patch, where everyone was able to select their own unique shape for a pumpkin, and then glue on jack-o-lantern eyes and mouths, as well as stems and leaves.
The discovery table was loved by all this week and included a "free the creepy crawler" activity. Here we had metal "bowls" that were filled with bat and spider rings, and had spider webs made out of string across the top. The children were then able to use tweezers to try and free the creatures from inside!
The writing table this week included free writing and drawing, practicing writing the letter B, and we also colored and signed thankyou sheets for each of our special visitors from the past two weeks.
Our books this week included:
Spookly The Square Pumpkin- we read this in class one day and listened to an audio tape while turning the pages on another morning this week- everyone really loved this!
Pete The Cat- Trick or Pete
This week was a short one but a good one. Next week we will continue to incorporate community helper month and will have a visit from a local police officer! We will again have Sensei Michael on Wednesday as well. The letter of the week next week will be the letter: C ! Please bring show and tell on Monday and Tuesday and send the item into class with your child at morning drop off. I hope to see you all at the Fall Festival tomorrow, and for those that we do not see, I hope that you all have an amazing weekend, it is supposed to be beautiful!
Sincerely,
Mrs.Mackenzie and Mrs.Haynes
