March is Moving on in Pre-K 1!

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to thank you all for taking the time to meet for Conferences on Tuesday. It was nice to have the opportunity to discuss your wonderful children!

It is hard to believe that the month of March is over. The days in our classroom go by so quickly! Our class had a lot of fun dressing up for all of the theme days in March.

Our Reading Street Book was What Do You Do With a Tail Like This? by Steve Jenkins. "Steven Jenkins and illustrator Robin Page explore the many amazing things animals can do with eyes, ears, mouth noses, feet and tails. Young readers will relish the mystery behind this interactive guessing book." The children truly enjoyed guessing what the animal was and what they did with their body part without seeing the whole animal. Today, before our second read through of this book one of the children said "I love this book". We continue to work on the skill of compare and contrast...as we read about different things, we talk about how they are alike and how they are different.

Our vocabulary words this week were breathe, meal, animals, insects, hear and see.

We also read The Book With No Pictures by B.J. Novak and listened to the Koala Who Could by Rachel Bright.

Our Letter of the Week was N. Our Letter Sound Song was On a November, Night, Night, Night.

Art Easel: Night Craft....black paper and different color chalk to draw with

Project Table: N is for Nest....materials to make a nest. Cute birds, people, eggs and worms were added. These will be on display on our Bulletin Board.

Math Table: Rainbow Pebbles

Writing Table: N Worksheets, Paper, Envelopes, Scissors, Hole Punchers, Tape....lots of supplies being used!

Discovery Table: Magnet Attraction...cars, people, discs and wands to make them move

Listening Center: Pete The Cat I Can Read books: A Pet for Pete, Pete The Cat and The Bad Banana & Pete The Cat Too Cool For School

Pretend Center: Our Pretend Center is now a Pizza Shop. This was the place to be! The children are doing a great job of taking turns of being the customer/wait staff/cook/cashier. There are menus, order pads to write on, pizzas, pizza cutters and bread to slice.

Looking ahead, next week our Letter of the Week will be W.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Kelley
