The Mixed Age Weekly Scoop!

Good afternoon Mixed Age families!

The mixed age class has had quite the eventful week! We continued discussions about the fall this week, and began implementing our letter of the week. Show and tell was a success and full of fun! The class loved bringing in something from home to show us all, and everyone was able to learn a lot of words that begin with the letter A! Please note that each week we will have a different letter that we will be focusing on and each show and tell item should begin with that week's letter. Next week will be focusing on the letter B! Additionally, we ask that if your child does bring in something from home for show and tell that the item be small enough for them to carry comfortably and store in their mailbox. These little ones are doing amazing with all of the routines and carrying their own things into the classroom, and a small show and tell item definitely allows them to accomplish these tasks with less difficulty and are less distracting during other class times. Monday and Tuesday are our show and tell days, please do not send multiple items throughout the week; one is perfect for our circle time's allotted time and introducing our letters and sounds. In addition to show and tell, we also began having visitors this week for community helper month. The children really enjoyed each visitor as well as the special activities and information each provided. Wednesday we had a visit from Sensei Michael, Thursday a visit from our local pediatric dentist's office, and music with Mrs. T on Friday! These were all so much fun. This weeks centers included:

Art table: We finished our fall trees with bristle brushes and paint, and began a Five Little Pumpkins sitting on a gate craft.

Writing table: Here we had white boards and dry erase markers for practicing writing the letter A. We also included blank sheets of paper for creative drawing/writing, and various fall themed coloring sheets.

The art easel: We completed our coffee filter leaves with water colors and added pumpkin sheets with dot markers.

The math table: the children were here able to complete multiple two step "puzzles" by matching the number piece of the puzzle to its corresponding pumpkins piece. They were ultimately able to count the number of pumpkins on each picture and identify the written number that went with it.

At the discovery table, things got messy! Most of our friends really enjoyed the activity here this week which included pumpkins, other gourds, and pumpkin "guts" that included pumpkin seeds and filaments. They were able to use magnifying glasses and their sense of touch and smell to explore each of these items.

Our books this week were:

                        Pete the Cat-Five Little Pumpkins

                        The Gruffalo

                        Poh-Poh Found a Toothbrush

Mixed Age had a wonderful time this week and it really did show! Next week we will again have a visit from Sensei Michael, as he will be coming every Wednesday throughout the month of October. We will also be having a visit from a local fire fighter and a nurse for community helper month! I want to remind everyone that we will be closed this coming Monday, October 14th, and we will see you all again next week!

Enjoy the long weekend everyone!
