Welcoming Fall in Mixed Age!

Hello Jack and Jill families,

I hope that this email finds you well on this rainy Friday afternoon! We've got another week of mixed age in the books, and it was yet another great one. All of our students are really getting comfortable in the classroom both with us and each other; we have quite a few friendships beginning to blossom! I am so glad that everyone has been having a great time thus far. This week we began talking and learning about emotions, and all of the different ways that we can identify and understand them. Many friends were able to recognize feelings of nervousness upon first starting school, a little bit of sadness from the initial separating from their families, but overall everyone was sure to include the feelings of hapiness that being at jack and jill gives them! It was really heartwarming to be a part of this. Everyone is doing great!

This week our centers included:

The art table: Here we had an invitation to create your own monster activity, which you may have noticed hanging in the hallway! This was a really fun and open way for everyone to get creative in creating their own masterpieces- the use of google eyes was definitely a fan favorite! These came out awesome. We also ended the week with color monster water color painting. This was probably the most popular activity we had in centers this week and will be sure to include often in the future.

The art easel: this week we had a draw my own emotions activity, where everyone was able to look in a mirror and describe what they felt like their emotions were. They were then able to draw their own self portraits.

The math table included a color monster themed pom pom activity that encouraged counting, sorting, and the use of tweezers in order to pick them up.

The discovery center this week included magnetic tongs, different colored paper clips, and small pipe cleaner pieces for monster hair! We also performed an overflowing emotions experiment on Monday and Tuesday so everyone was able to take part. Everyone was truly amazed and loved this activity.

For music and movement this week we moved along to "The Silly Bear Hunt" and the "Freeze Dance Song". These little ones really have got some moves!

The books we read this week included:

                        The Color Monster

                        The Feelings Monsters

                        The Way I Feel

                        Go Away Big Green Monster

Another great week down, many more to go! Again this week I will attach some pictures at the bottom of this email. I hope that everyone has a fun, safe weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday!

Warmly,

Mrs. Mackenzie and Mrs. Haynes
