Welcoming March in 5 Day Pre-K!

Hello Pre-K Families,

I hope everyone was able to enjoy the extra daylight today!

Important Information for the week:

Show & Tell for Letter V will be on Wednesday, March 12th.

Our next Spirit Day is on Thursday, March 13th. It is Tropical Thursday.

There is no school on Friday, March 14th. It is a Professional Development Day for the teachers.

We were very lucky to have Miss Grace, an alumni of Jack and Jill, and a current culinary student at Johnson & Wales University, come in to cook with us. On Tuesday, the children made their own pizza. They mixed ingredients to form their dough, flattened it out, spread sauce, topped with cheese and even got to add peperoni if they wanted. They also each went home with a bag of trail mix. On Thursday, Grace came back and made banana pancakes with the children. Each child mashed their bananan and then mied the ingredients to make their pancake. After she cooked them on the griddle, the children could add strawberries, chocolate chips and whipped cream. Everyone seemed to really enjoy cooking and the end result! We got great news on Friday, and Grace will be returning in April to do some more cooking with us!

Our Letter of the Week was A.  Our Letter Sound Song was Clap, Clap, Clap for the Animal Act.

Our Reading Street Book this week was See How They Grow: Owl by Mary Ling. "Close-up integrated photographs and an informative text follow every stage of an owl's development from its hatching from an egg to its full-grown stage." Our vocabulary words were chick, down, owl, eggshell, feathers and tasty.

Our Reading Street Song was Fly Little Owl. The children had fun pretending they were owls as we sang our song. We used a tape measure to show how tall an average barn owl is and each child stood next to it to see where it came up to on them.

We also read Pete's A Pizza, Are You Listening Jack and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish.

Art Easel:  Pizza worksheet, similar to color by number, the children colored each pizza topping a certain color.

Project Table:  We stated the week with each child making a chef hat for our cooking series. We also made Dr. Seuss hats. The children were able to color in their hat and then cut it out all by themselves. On Friday, the children had a lot of fun making their own pair of binoculars. We decorated them with water color markers. We talked about owl eyesight this week and how owls cannot see well from side to side. The children looked through the tubes to look around. On the rugs in our classroom I put pom poms (mice) for them to find.. They noticed that they had to turn their heads the same way an owl does to see things that are not right in front of them. I loved as they packed up at the end of the day and a child said I can't wait to get home and tell my family about this!

Math Table: Cube building

Discovery Table: Toothpicks and small marshmallows to build with

Writing Table:  A Worksheets, doodle boards and white paper with markers and scissors for free art.

Listening Center: Hands Off My Honey by Jane Chapman

See you in the morning,

Mrs. Kelley
