Wrapping up February in the 3's

Good afternoon 3’s families,

Welcome back! We were so happy to see our friends back at school this week. We are wrapping up our February unit and will be moving on to a class favorite next month. March will be all about DINOSAURS! This week we repeated some activities from earlier in the month so the children could have one last chance before switching things over next week.

This week at CIRCLE TIME,

· We read Shape Song Swingalong. This is another book in the Barefoot Books series. You can find the animated version for this story on YouTube.

· We played a cooperative Monster Match Puzzle game. We used monster puzzles (each have 2 pieces). Each child had their own piece. When their matching puzzle piece was pulled out of the bag, they placed it on the easel, and then picked the next piece. During this activity, students worked on waiting for his/her turn, calling friends’ names, and matching pictures. They seemed to really enjoy this game!

· We also did some dancing.

What’s new in CENTERS this week?

Art: Students were introduced to watercolor painting this week. On Thursday, they painted a crayon-resist picture of their first name. On Friday, children had a chance to draw their own designs in crayon first, and then go over with the watercolor paints. Check out the attached photo to see their beautiful artwork! The bright colors remind us that Spring is on its way!

Discovery Bins: Shape hunters! Children used shape-viewers to search for shapes around the classroom. They looked all around the room searching for circles, squares, rectangles and triangles. There were also shape puzzles at this center.

Block Bins: The kiddos played with the wooden block people and car ramp one last time.

Playdough and Sensory Bins: One last week of Valentine-themed materials in these centers. New DINOSAUR materials coming next week!

Enjoy your last week of February. We can’t wait to welcome your children back to school on Thursday, March 4th. Don’t forget that Friday, March 5th is CRAZY HAIR DAY!
